2022 - BJHM Begins
It all begins with an idea. In partnership with Pickering Anti Black Racism Taskforce (PABRT), DFCC hosted the first Black Joy Holiday Market . The proceeds from vendor and community donations raised enough to gift 22 families generous baskets with over 50 items!
One basket contained more than the total amount distributed in 2021! We were even able to include sorrel!

2023 - BJHM Grows!
Black Joy Holiday Market is back! Nov. 24 & 25. at CHD Recreation Complex Come out, shop, eat, learn and enjoy the vibes! Your dollar supports the vendors and the vendors support ACFB. End your night with fireworks! Pickering’s Winter Nights City Lights will be happening across the street at Esplanade Park!

The idea of culturally appropriate food baskets is founded in the principles of Food Justice. - universal access to nutritious, affordable, and culturally-appropriate food for all.
Pictured here are all the donations we collected in 2021. DFCC was pleased to be able to gift 2 families a small food basket that year.

One of the unique aspects of the Black Joy Holiday Market is that each Vendor is also a proud sponsor of the Afro-Caribbean Food Baskets. This is community supporting community—a true celebration of Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics) and Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility).
